Fishery Solution

To ensure a timely and accurate use of quota data, Visma Consulting has developed a set of business intelligence and graphical tools, which give the ultimate overview of quota uptake at any given point in time.

vCheck is designed for use by the fisheries authorities. The system is best explained as a graphical drill-down of data. Visma Consulting has developed the system, which will allow the authority to be on top of all the vast amounts of data that indicate the quota usage.

Real Time

Timeliness is important when working with the quota data and analysing the quota usage. The older the data available, the more inaccurate the background for decision making will be.

There are two main purposes of the vCheck system:

  • Give the authorities an overview of the year-to-date uptake of all quotas in order to avoid over fishing.
  • Give the authorities an overview of the year-to-date uptake of all quotas in order to make sure that the industry spends the quota.

Overview of Data

No one can argue that vast amounts of data areneeded to calculate the quota uptake. All of the logbook details need to be available in order to aggregate the fishing activity and compare that with the quotas given for the individual vessels. But even this is not enough to ensure an accurate and complete picture of the fishing activity. By comparing the logbook data with sales notes and VMSactivity, you will ensure a higher degree of accuracy. This in turn allows for more and better ways to ensure the quality and accuracy of the logbook data.

The vCheck system presents a good overview of the quota data and many possibilities to drill down into the underlying data.

The initial overview from where the user can drill down into the underlying data. Open and closed quotas are included in the total list depending on the search criteria.

Detailed View

When drilling down into the data for a quota, the details about the catch can be seen on a per vessel basis. In the screenshot below the activities for two vessels can be seen. The screen shows aggregated activities month-by-month for a given quota for each vessel. By clicking on the Catch values, the individual catch lines from the logbooks are shown. If integration with the VMS is available, clicking on the Month values will bring up the positions and track for the selected month.

Alerts Ensure Even Better Control Mechanisms

The Quota Analysis system can generate alerts based on rules that are set up to validate the logbook data. The rules and alert values can be modified to accommodate different requirements. Typical rules will validate the speed, catch per hour and other such values.

Realtime Benefits

The possibility to actually compare the historical catch activity with the current activity - on a daily or monthly basis - provides the overview necessary to plan and react to ensure the best quota usage possible. The comparison immediately shows changes in the seasonal fisheries that are so important to know about as early as possible. With the year-by-year comparison feature, it is very easy to follow the seasonal changes for the fishery within each quota.
